5/20/23 second week blog

What's up blog,     Second week down and I've learned so much more. I have done almost all of the maneuvers that pilots learn in flight school. This has been so much fun. What I was really excited about was completing one of my biggest goals which has been taking off. It was kinda scary but also very fun. I unfortunately was not able to land because of wind conditions but hopefully the next two days I can get to landing the plane! These two weeks have been great. I though that I had learned a lot the first week. But I learned even more the second and has truly been great and very beneficial for myself and along with my senior project partners Henry and Jack. I hope that the last two days next week go well!

5/13/23 first week blog

What's up blog,     The first week is done and it has been great. I've learned so much in such a short time frame. Through studying and flying I've truly learned a lot. I have learned many maneuvers, how to climb, descend, and turn left and right. It has been so cool. My instructor still has been in more control of the plane than myself which is a bummer but I am still learning. I know that next week I will unlock more things to do in the aircraft. I am hoping for a great week next week full of many things. Mostly landing and taking off which would be so cool. This week was great and I am looking forward to the next.

day #12 5/23/23

What's up blog,     The last day of senior project is here and it has been a great time. Unfortunately, I could not be able to fly today because my instructor is busy today. Although today I have been studying and working on my 3-page reflection. I studied for an hour today just reviewing radio calls to keep them fresh. I do plan on returning to flying at some point. So I do need to keep them in my brain as a refresher. It has been a very fun 2 weeks and will definitely remember it for a long time.  studied 1 hour Total hours 72

day #11 5/22/23

What's up Blog,     Today was another great day of flying. I did two takeoffs today and almost landed the plane today. I also was able to fly through the traffic pattern which was very cool. A person needs to be very attentive when flying through the pattern due to other aircraft in the area taking off and landing. I am disappointed that I could not land the plane today by myself. It is the most difficult part of flying and it just will take more time. through studying and going into flight school past senior project it will all come together.  Hours at Concord Airport 2: (11-1)  Hours studied 4: (8-10) (5-7) Total hours 71

Week #2 reflection 5/20/23

Week two was a great week. I reached many goals that I had been striving to complete. I completed many new things such as better control of the aircraft, new maneuvers, and taking off by myself which I was really looking forward to doing. After every flight I talk with Henry and Jack about their experiences threw their flying and we all learn from each other which I think is very important for each others personal growth. These next two days are going to a great time of flying. I hope that weather is good so I can learn more. I am mostly looking forward to landing. This has posed to me as a must need to learn. It is the most critical part of flying. Takeoffs are optional but landings are mandatory. I feel that if I can land the plane by myself this senior project will be a today success. I’ve learned so much but I feel that this is the last thing that is needed for me in this adventure. The daily blogs that I do every night help me a lot with learning how to fly planes. I can truly re

day #10 5/19/23

What's up blog,     Today was a great way to end the second week of Senior Project. I could not take off today due to a bad crosswind which would make it very difficult for me. We took off and my instructor gave me a visor to wear where I can only see within the cockpit. This simulates being inside clouds where you cannot see anything. We did simple maneuvers left, right, climbs, and descends. This was very weird being that I cannot see outside of the plane. We then did quick emergency maneuvers for when a plane would be coming head-on toward us. In this situation, we would slow down and push down on the yolk to turn right. This maneuver gave a weird feeling to my stomach because it was so harsh. Today was a good day and I am looking forward to next week so I can possibly land the plane! Hours at Concord Airport 2: (1-3) Hours studied 5: (9-12)(4-6) 65 hours total

Day #9 5/18/23

What's up blog!     Today was another successful day of flying. Today I finally was able to take off by myself with just my instructor's closed eye. This was very exciting and also a little scary doing this by myself. But it was actually kinda simple. Once we reach around 55 knots I pulled up on the steering yolk and it took off. Way easier than I thought. Then we just did a fun fly over took Lake Sunapee where I live. I saw my house which was very cool. It was a good day of fun sightseeing and I had a great time. I am still learning on the radio calls which I stumble over a lot. I try my best to focus most of my studying time on working on the radio calls. Also working on what I do in different situations. Hopefully weather is in our favor so I can try landing the plane which is my next goal.  Hours at Concord Airport 2: (1-3) Hours studied 6 (8-10) (4-6) Tonight (8-10) 58 total hours

Day #8 5/17/23

What’s up Blog, We could not fly today because of the wind so today we did ground work. The ground work was fun today because we worked on a cross country trip. This is where a plane travels over 50 nautical miles. We did a bunch of measurements and calculating ground speed with wind resistance. Along with calculating fuel used. This includes a lot of math. There is also a more modern way of calculating a cross country trip on an app. Just entering locations it gives you the information needed. I will need to memorize and study the old fashion way of calculating a trip. Today was good and I am looking forward to tomorrow and hopefully I can takeoff by myself.  2 hours at Concord Airport (11-1) Hours studied 6 (8-10) (2-6) 50 total hours

Day #7 5/16/23

What's up blog!       Today was another great day of flying and I learned many more things that would help me in landing situations and also engine failure. I did the pre-flight checks all by myself, I can tell each day is getting a little easier because of practice and studying. Which includes what I do in checks of the aircraft and radio calls to the traffic tower. When in the air my instructor and I worked on engine failure situations. We simulated this by setting the engine to idle and putting the flaps down, controlling our speed with the flaps working them up and down to control speed.  Also that we worked on stall situations which my instructor told me was one of the most important things to know when operating an aircraft. In this situation, we also pulled all the power back and pulled back on the steering device setting off the stall alarm. Stalling is where the aircraft is not generating enough lift. We would start the stall which is extremely scary at first because it fe

Day #6 5/15/23

What's up blog,     Today was a great day. After coming back from the weekend I felt more confident in my flying and also learned more things. I did all of the pre-flight procedures by myself without my instructor's help. I started up the engine and taxied down the runway. I did very well with taxying it was the first time that did fairly well doing that. We took off and worked on slow flight, S turns, and circling an object on the ground. These maneuvers were practiced for landing and circling a place where I would land. Hopefully, if we receive fair weather conditions I could apply them to possibly landing. I am looking forward to tomorrow and working more on these maneuvers.  Hours at Concord Airport 2. (1-3) Hours studied 5. (9-12)-(5-7) Total: 35 Hours

3 paragraph reflection 5/14/23

I am now 1 week into senior project and it has been a very fun time. Never would I think that I would get the chance to fly a plane and has been a great experience. I have overcome many fears through flying planes, it is truly kind of a scary yet exciting experience. It has also been very cool to share this experience with two of my friends. We have been living together and also flying together which has been really cool. It helps because we can all talk about it together and learn from each other's experiences.       The first week was very exciting and a great time. I learned a lot of the basics of both being in the air and also classes on the ground for my two hours at the airport. I've learned simple maneuvers such as climbing, descending, turning left and right. Also, sharp turns going up to 45 degrees which is very intense that I could feel the G's on my body. I also learned what the symbols on an aviation map mean. The differences between airports and the height

Day #5 5/12/23

Today was unfortunate because the plane I usually fly is undergoing its 100-hour maintenance. So instead of flying my instructor and I went over other things that are very important to flying. We talked about maps and the symbols on them. Also the difference between big and small airports and their colors. We also talked about lift which is the physics behind how an airplane flies through the air. Along with stalling which is when an aircraft can't generate enough lift to keep itself on a steady plain. It was unfortunate that I could get back up in the sky today but I did learn a lot of new information that I can study for and help myself gain a stronger understanding of flying.  Time at Concord airport 2: (11-1) Time studied 4: (2-4) and tonight (8-10) 28 hours total

Day #4 5/11/23

Today was a very intense day. I arrived at Concord Airport as usual went over the weather with my instructor and did the pre-flight checks. We taxied down the runway and like yesterday he had me put my hands on the controls as he took off to get a feel for taking off. We worked on sharp turns which were very fun. These turns were at 45 degrees which feels like a lot and was pretty scary. I could really feel the G force on myself doing these turns. We started to fly back to Concord airport because it started to rain and the winds were picking up. The landing was kinda sketchy, right before touch down a big gust of wind pushed the plane too far left and cause us to go full speed and climb. We had to try it again and we got the plane on the ground the second time. This was a scary but also cool experience because you have to be ready for anything in flying. Hours at Concord airport 2 (1-3) Hours studied 4 (10-12) and tonight (7-9) 6 hours today 22 hours total

Day #3 5/10/23

Today was another great day of flying. I arrived at Concord airport and checked in with my instructor. We checked the weather together and found that it was decently windy along with which direction we should take off from depending on wind direction. After that, we headed out to the plane and did the pre-flight checks. Started up the engine and taxied down the runway. Taxiing was still hard but felt more comfortable than yesterday. My instructor flew the plane off the ground and I had my hands on the controls to get a feel for it. Like yesterday, we worked on turning, descending, and climbing. Landing the plane in my opinion is the hardest when we landed the plane today, especially in the wind was a bit nerve-racking. Overall a great day and still learning the controls of everything.   Hours at Concord Airport: 2 (1pm-3pm) Hours studied: 4 (10am-12pm) and (4pm-6pm)

Day #2 5/9/23

Today was a very exciting day, I was able to go up and fly with my instructor today. I arrived at Concord Airport at 11AM and had a preview of what we were supposed to do today. My instructor and I checked the weather and then headed out to the plane. Here, my instructor, had me inspect the aircraft and do many checks to see if there is anything wrong and to prepare it for flight. After checking and preparing we hopped on the plane and started it up. We proceeded to taxi down the runway which in my opinion was the hardest part. Then we took off which my instructor did but when we got into the air I was able to fly the plane. I just did some simple maneuvers and also flew over Proctor which was very cool. My instructor also landed the plane which I carefully watched over because soon I'll be in control of taking off and landing. I am excited for tomorrow, to learn more and get back in the air.  Hours at Concord Airport 2. 11-1 Hours studied: 4 total: 1:30-3:30. Will study tonight 8

Day #1 5/8/23

Today was the first day of flight lessons. I was extremely excited to get out there and learn to fly. My instructor was very nice and these two weeks will be very fun and interesting. Unfortunately, the winds were too high for a first flight. So instead my instructor explained the controls and parts of the aircraft that we will be flying. I learned how all the controls in the cockpit operated and when I would be using them in flight. Then he showed me the preflight checks which are before you take off there is a whole checklist that has to be done. examples are observing the plane exterior, checking the gas and oil, and checking if the flaps work. After that, we went inside and I was shown how pilots can track the weather and how to access apps to help pilots prepare for flight. Tomorrow's weather looks more promising for a first flight and should be a great day. Time at Concord AirPort 11-1 Time Studied 4-6
